Roof Work That Fits Oakville Homes

James Roofing repairs and replaces roofs across Oakville, from Old Oakville and Bronte to Glen Abbey and Joshua Creek. We work on asphalt shingle, flat and low-slope roofs, along with eavestrough, siding and attic insulation. Call (289) 683-9727 or request a free estimate, and we will inspect the roof and give you a written plan with no obligation.

Oakville’s housing covers a wide range. Near downtown and along the lake you find older homes, some inside heritage conservation districts, where a change in roofing material can need the Town’s sign-off and where details like cedar shake or slate-look profiles matter. Further north, neighbourhoods like Falgarwood, Iroquois Ridge and Glen Abbey went up mostly in the 1970s and 1980s, and many of those roofs have tired skylights and worn flashing. A lot of larger homes have complex rooflines with hips, valleys, dormers and turrets, and every one of those intersections is a place for water to get in.

Complex roofs come down to careful work in the valleys and along the walls. We install ice-and-water shield in every valley and along the eaves, use step flashing and counter-flashing where roofs meet walls, and reflash skylights during a re-roof instead of shingling around old ones. South of the QEW, wind off Lake Ontario in Bronte and the southeast end is another reason to fasten everything properly. Done right, the roof stops being something you think about.

Local Conditions

Roofing Issues We See Across Oakville

  1. Complex Multi-Valley Roofs

Large homes with many hips, valleys and dormers leak where roof planes meet. We line valleys with ice-and-water shield and flash every wall and dormer joint properly.

  2. Aging Skylights

Skylights from the 1980s and 1990s often fog, crack or leak at the curb. Dealing with them during a re-roof avoids cutting into a brand new roof a few years later.

  3. Heritage District Rules

Homes in Oakville's heritage conservation districts may need approval to change roofing materials or visible details. We check the requirements with the Town before quoting.

I am beyond happy with the work that James Roofing did at my rental property. I had water damage from an incompatible roofing system that was put on by the previous company. From the beginning of my project, James was happy to answer any questions I had about proposed solutions and always made sure I understood all options available. The job was done when he said it would be, and on time. The crew was very polite with my tenants and cleaned up 100% after their work was done. I will be calling James Roofing again when my main roof needs replaced.

Honestly great experience from start to finish. I got the run around from a few other roofers before finding James Roofing. He was prompt in returning my phone calls, worked me in a few days earlier than originally planned and fixed the leak in my roof immediately and for a fair price. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for good, honest work

Questions

Roofing in Oakville: common questions

Still unsure about something? Call us and talk to someone who actually works on roofs.

(289) 683-9727

Does my Oakville re-roof need a permit?

Most residential re-roofs do not need a building permit if the structure stays the same. Structural changes may, and homes in a heritage conservation district can need a separate heritage permit for material changes. We will confirm with the Town of Oakville before work begins.

Should skylights be dealt with at the same time as the roof?

Usually, yes. With the old shingles off, we can reflash the skylight curb properly, which is where most skylight leaks start. If the unit itself is fogged or cracked, we will recommend replacing it while the roof is open.

What shingles suit a larger Oakville home?

Most homeowners choose architectural asphalt shingles from a major manufacturer, which have a heavier, dimensional look than older 3-tab shingles. We bring samples so you can match the colour to your brick, stone or siding.

Do you handle commercial roofs in Oakville?

Yes. We repair and replace flat and low-slope commercial roofs using modified bitumen, TPO and EPDM, and we clear commercial lots in winter. Call (289) 683-9727 for a free estimate.
