Roofing for Stoney Creek's Older Core and New Subdivisions

James Roofing serves Stoney Creek as part of our work across the City of Hamilton. We repair and replace shingle roofs, fix flat roofs, install eavestrough and gutter guards, and upgrade attic insulation. Call (289) 683-9727 or request a free estimate, and we will inspect your roof and explain what we find.

Stoney Creek sits in two very different settings. Below the escarpment, the older part of town along King Street and around the Battlefield area has postwar bungalows and older homes, many on their second or third roof. Out toward Fruitland and Winona, the old fruit belt between the QEW and the lake has been filling in with townhouses and new subdivisions. Those newer roofs often have busy layouts, with small valleys, short runs and shared roof lines between townhouse units. A leak at one of those valleys can show up as a ceiling stain two rooms away, so we trace water back to where it actually gets in.

Above the escarpment, Upper Stoney Creek and Heritage Green are newer, with most homes built in the last few decades. The big issue up there is exposure. Open land and the escarpment edge mean wind reaches roofs with little to break it, and lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario can pile up quickly. We install with high-wind nailing, sealed starter rows and good ridge ventilation, and we pay close attention to attic venting so moisture does not build up over the winter.

Local Conditions

What Stoney Creek Roofs Are Up Against

  1. Escarpment Wind

Homes along the brow and in Upper Stoney Creek face strong, unbroken gusts. Lifted tabs and missing ridge caps are the usual result. Proper nailing and sealed edges make the difference.

  2. Townhouse Roof Lines

New townhouses in Fruitland and Winona share continuous roofs. A repair on one unit has to tie into the next without creating a leak, so we take care at the unit lines and firewall joints.

  3. Lake-Effect Snow and Ice

Snow off Lake Ontario loads roofs fast, and freeze-thaw cycles push meltwater under shingles. Ice-and-water shield and a well-vented attic keep ice dams from forming.

I am beyond happy with the work that James Roofing did at my rental property. I had water damage from an incompatible roofing system that was put on by the previous company. From the beginning of my project, James was happy to answer any questions I had about proposed solutions and always made sure I understood all options available. The job was done when he said it would be, and on time. The crew was very polite with my tenants and cleaned up 100% after their work was done. I will be calling James Roofing again when my main roof needs replaced.

Honestly great experience from start to finish. I got the run around from a few other roofers before finding James Roofing. He was prompt in returning my phone calls, worked me in a few days earlier than originally planned and fixed the leak in my roof immediately and for a fair price. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for good, honest work

Questions

Roofing in Stoney Creek: common questions

Still unsure about something? Call us and talk to someone who actually works on roofs.

(289) 683-9727

Which permit rules apply to a re-roof in Stoney Creek?

Stoney Creek has been part of the City of Hamilton since amalgamation in 2001, so the City of Hamilton's building rules apply. Most residential re-roofs do not need a permit, but structural work may. We will confirm with the City before we start.

Can you repair one unit of a townhouse roof?

Yes. We can repair or replace the roof over a single unit and tie it into the neighbouring units. If your townhouse is part of a condominium corporation, check with the board first, since the roof may be common property.

How do I know if wind damaged my roof?

Look for shingle pieces on the lawn, bare patches, or tabs that are flipped up or creased. Inside, check the attic for daylight or damp spots after a storm. If you see any of that, call us for a free inspection before the next rain.

Do you install gutter guards in Stoney Creek?

Yes. Treed streets below the escarpment fill eavestrough quickly in the fall. We install gutter guards over new or existing aluminum eavestrough. Call (289) 683-9727 for a free estimate.
