A new roof, done properly from the deck up
James Roofing replaces residential roofs across Hamilton, Toronto, Niagara, Halton and Peel. We tear off every layer down to the wood, repair the deck, and install a complete shingle system with new flashing and ventilation. Call (289) 683-9727 or request a free estimate online, and we’ll measure the roof, look in the attic and give you a written quote.
A roof replacement is more than new shingles. Most of the failures we see on older Ontario homes start at the details: rusted step flashing along a wall, chimney counter-flashing that was caulked instead of cut into the mortar, or eaves with no ice protection at all. When the old roof comes off, we find out what the last crew did and correct it before anything new goes down.
We also look at why the old roof wore out. Shingles that curled on the south slope while the north side still looks fine usually point to a hot, poorly vented attic. Bare spots at the eaves after a few winters often mean ice dams. Fix the cause along with the roof, and the new shingles get to live out their full life instead of ageing early. We’ll walk you through what we found in the attic and on the deck before we quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.
Why James Roofing
What every James Roofing replacement includes
-
Full tear-off to the deck
We remove every existing layer so we can see the wood and repair it. No shingling over old problems.
-
Ice and water protection
Self-adhered membrane goes along the eaves, in the valleys and around penetrations, where ice dams and meltwater do the most damage.
-
New flashing, not reused
Drip edge, step flashing, vent boots and chimney flashing are replaced with the roof, so the weak points are as new as the shingles.
-
Balanced attic ventilation
We check intake at the soffits and exhaust at the ridge so heat and moisture leave the attic instead of cooking the shingles from below.

What our customers say

- 5 out of 5 stars
I am beyond happy with the work that James Roofing did at my rental property. I had water damage from an incompatible roofing system that was put on by the previous company. From the beginning of my project, James was happy to answer any questions I had about proposed solutions and always made sure I understood all options available. The job was done when he said it would be, and on time. The crew was very polite with my tenants and cleaned up 100% after their work was done. I will be calling James Roofing again when my main roof needs replaced.

Honestly great experience from start to finish. I got the run around from a few other roofers before finding James Roofing. He was prompt in returning my phone calls, worked me in a few days earlier than originally planned and fixed the leak in my roof immediately and for a fair price. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for good, honest work

How It Works
How your roof replacement runs
-
Inspection and quote
We walk the roof, check the attic and measure everything, then give you a written quote that spells out materials and scope.
-
Site protection
Tarps go over gardens and walls, a bin goes on the driveway, and the crew sets up fall protection before the first shingle comes off.
-
Tear-off and install
We strip in sections we can close up the same day, then repair the deck and install underlayment, flashing and shingles.
-
Cleanup and walkthrough
We sweep the lawn and driveway with a magnet for nails, haul away the debris and walk the finished roof with you.
Choosing what goes on your new roof
Architectural asphalt shingles
Most homes we re-roof in the Hamilton and Toronto area get architectural (laminated) asphalt shingles from major manufacturers. They are thicker than the old three-tab style, carry higher wind ratings and the layered profile hides small deck irregularities. On exposed homes near the lake or along the escarpment, we follow the manufacturer’s high-wind nailing pattern. Colour matters more than people expect: darker shingles run hotter on a south-facing slope, one more reason the ventilation has to be right.
Standing seam steel
Standing seam steel costs more up front, but it sheds snow well and has no exposed fasteners on the panel face. It suits low-pitch sections, cottages and owners who plan to stay in the house a long time. We’ll tell you honestly whether your roof is a good candidate.
What sits under the shingles
The parts you never see do most of the work. We install ice-and-water shield at the eaves and in the valleys, synthetic underlayment over the rest of the deck, new drip edge, and step flashing lapped with every course along each wall. Delaminated or rotten plywood is replaced before anything covers it. Ridge vents or roof vents are sized to match the intake at the soffits.
What affects the price
Every quote depends on roof size and pitch, how many layers come off, how much decking needs replacing, the number of valleys, chimneys and skylights, and the material you pick. A steep 2-storey roof with dormers takes longer to do safely than a low bungalow. We put it all in writing so you can compare quotes line by line. If we find rotten decking once the old roof is off, we show you photos before replacing it.
Questions
Roof Replacement FAQs
Still unsure about something? Call us and talk to someone who actually works on roofs.
(289) 683-9727How long does a roof replacement take?
Most single-family homes take one to three days, depending on size, pitch and how many layers are coming off. Weather can move the start date. We only open as much roof as we can close up the same day.
Can you put new shingles over my old ones?
We don't recommend it. A second layer hides deck damage, adds weight and holds heat that shortens shingle life. We tear off to the deck so we can inspect and repair the wood underneath.
Do I need to be home during the work?
No, but we'll go over the plan with you first. Move cars out of the driveway, and take down pictures or shelves on top-floor walls, since the hammering can shake them loose.
What time of year can you replace a roof in Ontario?
Late spring through fall is ideal because shingles seal best in warm weather. We can work in cooler months with extra steps such as hand-sealing tabs, but we won't install in conditions that compromise the roof.
How do I know if I need a replacement or a repair?
If the damage is limited to one area and the rest of the roof is in good shape, a repair usually makes sense. When the shingles are worn across the whole roof or leaks keep coming back, replacement is the better investment. We'll show you photos and give you a straight answer.
